As we go through life we all develop a kind of rhythm, or a set of habits, that shape our life. These can be everyday things like whether we brush our teeth before we go to bed, what kind of food we eat, or how much TV we watch. They can also be things like what we do when we are depressed, how we respond when someone makes us angry, and what things we celebrate. There is a rhythm to the way we spend our money, the way we spend our free time, who we hang out with, and the things we think about. All of these smaller rhythms come together to form the rhythm of our life. They shape who we are, how we think, and how we live.
When God came among us in Jesus Christ he also had a rhythm to his life. A rhythm, a set of habits, a way of being, that shaped his life and defined who he was. It is this rhythm of the life of Jesus that has and continues to change the world from the inside out, one heart, one life at a time. The trick for those of us who are followers of Jesus then, is to get the rhythms of our lives in sync with the life rhythms of Jesus.
